We have just decided in the past few hours as mentioned in the last post it would be on the 1st July. ....it was a long and drawn out process....from here we now notify the the other lofts who were not successful...we will do that tomorrow. We have today now ordered the first prototype set of 5.80 sails to check and test. Once that is done and we confirm we like them in the next few weeks, we will then make an agreement and a public announcement so another month to go before the brand is confirmed. So we can CONFIRM WE will be appointing an exclusive 5.80 sail supplier for the next five years....more news late this month. Thanks

Hello! Does it mean you have decided it will be a One-design sailmaker or is the question still open? I really hope for the later, that you can make your own sails as long as they comply with a strict rule. I have a MiniTransat Pogo1 and it would be a really knockdown for this class if we would have to buy a One-design sail from a certain sailmaker. Dont go for this option. It wont either gain the development of the sail or keeping the costs down.
Regards Pontus

Regards Pontus Hi Pontus...yes the decision has been made and we believe the vast majority of 5.80 sailors will like the idea and for most it will deliver all the advantages we hoped for. We know it will disadvantage a few, but internationally it has been proven a very successful formula for one design classes. The 5.80 class is unique in many ways and for me and our small working group and from initial feed back and response from the sailors who have plans , the concept appeals. WE are hoping for even open competition and hope that when you have a chance to asses the final outcome in total, to be announced in a few weeks, you will appreciate some of the advantages. Thanks for the comment and all the best....

Hi Don,
I write from the perspective of an ex Mini 6,50 owner.
When a Series Mini sits alongside another same class Mini and one has sails that cost 45% less & a e-auto steering system that cost 60% less than the other boat, the lower cost boat's skippers saved almost $10k. But the skipper will know that the savings may have cost him , or her, 10 - 20 k per day in performance. The Mini Transat prize goes to the fastest boat that is for sure. But to the best sailor - only maybe. To the skipper who spent the least - I think never.
The Mini class has great esprit de corps - especially when it is the little guy against the big guy.
I think moving as close as possible to one good price for all makes the 5,80 more a race among all the guys regardless of bank account, gender, etc .. Make all the shipping costs the same & help the Oz & Kiwi!
So, Good on yer mate
Adrian

Has the sail decision/info been posted somewhere, or still pending?

Hi...Tentative Decisions are made and currently making first set of 5.80 sails.Final designs were presented last week and they look good. WE should be signing an agreement next week and then shortly after we will Issue an Update Press Release to announce the New Partner. There will be a special "OD Sail"section on the 5.80 website, listing full sail spec of each sail and the options available and then the order process and conditions. Orders will open when we make that announcement. We will not make any more 5.80 sails until we get to sail test them with the loft in Late SEPTEMBER. So earliest 5.80 sails will probably be delivered sometime in NOVEMBER. THNX...everything takes a little longer than we expect

Hello! Apologies if I have missed this, but was there any update on the one design sails? Which loft was selected and costs? Cheers!
