Howdy folks, hope everyone is doing well.
Got a question like one of those 'guess the weight of the cake' types you might get at a village fair, just in this case you don't win the item, just massive kudos and perpetual bragging rights instead...
I'm thinking about getting hold of a trailer fairly soon, most seem to be sold based on length and load capacity. Length is easy, but for an all up weight does anyone have any estimations by any chance?
The keel is ok - i.e. weight of steel + lead - 80kgs of steel (ish) and 120kgs of lead (ish).
The hull is a bit of guesswork - i think maybe 400kgs of plywood and then about 100-150kgs of resin and other stuff. Does anyone have any better ideas about this, i'm just eyeballing the stack of plywood and guessing!
Add a mast (Don any ideas/ spec info from the supplier you have made an agreement with for the kit?), sails, deck gear, outboard (can get this from the suppliers websites), liferaft etc and the rest of the required on-board and launching stuff I'm guessing over 1000kgs.
@don - what capacity is the trailer you have for Trekka out of interest? Any special considerations you made when buying?
Given trailers appear to jump in load capacity from, say 750kgs load capacity to 1000kgs to 1250kgs and the jump from 750 to 1250 is quite substantial (like another 1k GBP for some vendors) it would be good to see if others think i'm in the ball park at around 1000kgs all up weight.
There also appears to be some additional cost for trailers rated for the UK and those rated for the EU roads - i have literally no idea what this means, if anyone has any experience of these two ratings please let me know! Taking the boat to another country right now isn't really looking likely (!) but for definite in the future that would be the plan...
