I have been asked "WHAT IS A SNUBBING WINCH?" ...you are only allowed two "Snubbing winches" on the 5.80...A snubbing winch for a metal brand winch will be the smallest in the range, NON_seftailing or any synthetic non-selftaing winch....like this Antal W5 Plastic Snubbing Winch - Attachments:

MAX.lift of Obsevation Pod?. So we have had a think about defining the Maximum Height Obsevation Pod extention as an "Option" for plan builders. After consideration we have set it at an 8cm increase. This brings the maximum off the deck at 30cm which is more than enough. .If you do NOT have the obsevation Pod you can fit a max size 50cm x 10mm diameter acrylic dome. This must have a 24mm Stainless steel roll bar fitted across it, strong enough to be used as a handrail in heavy weather. We will announce this on the builders notes as a Rule.

Here is the proposed Deck Plan for TREKKA Hull 01.....it coveres a lot of issues...I had one equest about the foredeck hatch as 50 x 50 seemed too Big ..so now the Rule is that you need to be able to fit through your deck hatch and one dimention must be 50cm....Good luck....

HI....No set hatch decided and it will be up to the builder to decide..so NOT compulsary ...and I am trying to make my own decision on design right now..in the next week to design my choice. I will use the Plastimo hatches for sure..we are also developing a Plastimo 5.80 BUILDERS PACK order which will have some good discounts from our Partner PLASTIMO...I have drawn many options and yes you could hinge on the side like a door...or on the top...if on the top you can make a easy rain/spray cover??? maybe and keep both side decks clear.. but it is like every boat..many things are a compromise...lol...so I will be interested to see what your thinking too...so make a sketch and lets keep thinking...but yes I like 100% watertight...and that is why the vents are so impotant..it is a small space inside when watertight so needs air when all shut up to keep the water out in a storm..I will let you know my choice when decided here thanks..good luck Don, here are my current ideas on a possible alternative design to the Pod/dome... Where I have tried to keep within the current Pod space envelope? However, I noted on your latest update video you are considering increasing the height of the Pod? Has a figure been decided upon as my alternative Pod/dome design would take advantage of any increase allowed, please advise? Thanks. On another point, I have increased the companionway door step up height +500mm up from the KWL in line with minimum ISO requirements i.e. reduces likelihood of down flooding in the event the cockpit is filled after a knockdown or wave break over in rough seas etc. Hey Craigsailing, I like your concept drawing of the "observation dome" ! It looks more modern and sleek. Where would someone source that clear acrylic moulded like that? Or is that something you would do yourself? I wonder if Don would be more likely approve it if it was a split window style where there was a support member that ran forward / aft in the middle of what would be two halves to the clear acrylic material? Not trying to hyjack your design .... CaptDan

I guess I am still stuck on this design - only the hatch would but raised up into the observation dome area. Might need the extra 8cm that is now a design change. This one is on a 6.50 ...

View AttachmentLooks OK..so you can see the issues and can measure up from the plans..I cut up a big carboard box and set it up to the dimensions, made the hatch cut out I wanted then climbed in etc ..etc...and all is OK so what ever works for you...either way it looks safe and yes I like to lock a hatch down 100% ...good luck as long as the stuctural components of the boat are intact and it does not look crazy ...it is OK

CaptDan Hi Capt Dan...sorry, for some reason I thought this was an older post..opps..late reply..anyway the reason we have concern about this is the size of the hole in the deck only covered by a blown acrylic piece..if that smashes it is a huge risk..the only appature we would allow or the biggest Hole in the deck there, would be 50 x 50cm?? so??....it is not so simple thanks...

Hi, this entry hatch seems to be watertight and user-friendly. Could be an alternative to 50x50 hatch. Anybody has an idea - is it production item or custom made? Photo is from post in Facebook, sailor is Norbert Sedlacek on his micro yacht.

What about a round hatch, like Lewmar’s size 22? www.lewmar.com/node/15140?v=24463

The Lewmar round hatch is OK but remember on An 8mm Plywood deck it is easier to get underdeck framing closer to the edge of a recatagular hatch...but it looks cool...and the YELLOW Hatch on Noberts little 4.9mt boat was an expensive one off composite hatch ..but not hard to make if you want to and budget it tight?? .good luck and remember also watertight bulkhead access Must be 100% watertight also.. thnx..and good luck

Good Morning :-)
I have a question with the side-windows for the "Ocean Race Version 24". The B+B Design has 2 windows in the main hull, and another 2 at the observation desk each side. Is this o.k. ? At the builder news is announced only 2 Windows each side.
Would be nice to hear from you . Thank´s a lot.

Don facebook Jan 28 2021 “haha I am always refereeing to the 5.80 Plans as supplied by Janusz...so they show three on each side...you cannot have the forward one...so just the two big ones as on the CNC kit...that is OK...and they are the biggest size....On Treka I just decided on one opening window as I get plenty of light on the bubble so yes the two big windows as shown on the kit are both approved ...and only as Polycarbonate on the plans, NOT acrylic or Perspex, much too weak. ...good luck and thanks for checking” m.facebook.com/groups/528251277862424/permalink/702659040421646/

Hi Christopher, I believe the side of the boat is the main hull and in large waves/heeled will spend more time in the water hence the restrictions on window size and material. The Pod/dome/skylight is less restrictive. As per BnB design seems to be approved with no issues. If you have a different idea that you want, I’d draw it and maybe mock and send it Don for confirmation. It doesn’t take much reading/watching to see Don is a big fan of the bubble.

Thanks for the good ideas!
I got a question about the hatch just aft of the mast. Is that compulsory?
I’ve planned a 40x40 hatch on the foredeck, a 50x50 hatch at the entrance. I skipped the dome and install a polycarbonate (lexan) “window” instead. On each side the two windows as cut in the cnc kit, also polycarbonate. And two closable vents on deck

Hey Niels, I believe that the hatch aft of mast is compulsory. Don might chime in on that though ......
