Hi CNC kit ordered and will be starting build in couple weeks. Very excited ! Been discussing the plans with a few people with marine design experience and they are undecided on if the 580 will make double figures down wind fully powered up? I thought the boat would be light enough if just day sailing weight with 2 people on board and 20 knots of wind to get it on the plane. Anyone have an opinion on this or too soon to speculate Cheers Joe

Hi Joe.... The Globe 5.80 is NOT a ClasseMini 650 for very good reasons and if a SETKA A can travel at 11kts as shown in a recent post in a solid quartering breeze...the 5.80 will surely make double figures ...you could compare the numbers maybe with a good cruiser racer...but not an extreme flyer out to break speed records. She will sail around the world and across Oceans with realistic reliability, and provide fun sailing and actually go to windward in a handsome way, like a real little sea boat...so lets wait and see, but speed is not the absolute objective....there are plenty of other yachts who fill that gap, but not many who can live up to the long list of features of the Globe 5.80 ...and remember NOT to build her too heavy or overload her... Thanks...and I like the idea of two bunks, a handy galley and chart table....

Sounds great, agree with all you say, i sail a Maxi 1000 at the moment as a cruiser racer so was wondering if when on the 580 I'd get line honours over similar boats !
