I am looking ahead at the construction of the rudder. More specifically, what material to use. I see that many builders in the past have used a wide range of materials depending on service.
Solid wood - white oak, mahogany, Douglas fir, cedar etc.
Plywood - wide range ..... pressure treated, pine, okume and meranti
I looked in the blog for Skwarek and it appears to be constructed from plywood.
Would anyone have any past experience ? What would be the recommended material for this fine vessel ?

HI...PLYWOOD is Perfect and you can use the lamination to assist with shaping to check it is Fair, but make sure you treat it as core materiel so oversized drill all holes..seal well with epoxy so edges of ply in the holes are sealed, then fill with epoxy filler and re-drill the holes to size...any water inside the timber and it will swell. same with Dagger boards if your making them.. ...

I'm planning to use laminated Douglas fir for the rudder, skeg and daggerboards. I know it's a small boat, but it feels wrong to use plywood.
