We are all very busy and never enough time, but I consider the story of Janusz Maderski building the first SETKA and then racing it across the Atlantic in 2012 an absolute MUST READ for anyone thinking about building the Globe 5.80. It is good to start reading that blog at the end, 2013 when he wrote a summary of the sailing and handling characteristics of this great little ocean voyaging yacht. When he finished he left his SETKA ( Hundreds) with a family and she went up onto the beach during a cyclone...
As you move back through the blogs you can read about trip across the Atlantic with great pics backing the story, then you come to the preparations and why it was that way. finally you have the build process with times for each stage right back to building the first frames. The section about building the keel, casting the led bulb, making his own mast, rudder and simple effective self steering ( with great photos!!!) will show you that even with the higher specifications of the Globe 5.80 and obvious higher cost of our materials etc, if you want to do it all yourself you can.
I first heard of the SETKA in May 2018 and was immediately impressed. It had already at that time, evolved more from Janusz first hull 01. Over the next two years Jausz became by designer of choice for our one design concept after closely assessing two others. If you cannot afford a 5.80, a Setka is a great little boat and will cost less but if your building a 5.80 you will learn a lot and be inspired by this blog!! Find a quiet time, sit down and enjoy!! the pictures, words and philosophy
