I haven’t been able to find any info on what size winches to use, is there a consensus on what to use, and from what I see everyone’s using two one on each side of the companionway, up on the deck seems to be the standard mounting positions. Nothing in the cockpit, huh?

Hey Shawn, I have 2 "previously experienced" Lewmar 8's on my boat - plenty large enough - really just needed for tensioning halyards - could use cleats like the Setkas ...... Originally there were supposed to be no self-tailing but there has been a change to that and some builders have purchased some nice Harken self tailing winches. I believe that we are limited to 2 winches. I am not sure that winches in the cockpit would be very functional. I assume that you mean on the cockpit coaming? Cheers, Dan

Yea Dan, I meant in the general area of the cockpit of course the coamings would be the only choice. Ha ha! After scanning trough all the e-mails Jane sent me, I found a memo that talked about a Nautilus two speed winch, I believe it was a 16. I figured 16 would be about right, Is there any rules that dictate size? I know you mentioned that only two are allowed. Once again, Thanks
