Has anyone had a go at pouring lead into a home made concrete mould? I have made a concrete mould but am worried it will crack/break-up. I have two full bulbs to make so will have to use the mould four times. If anyone has any tips or tricks to make this work please let me know. Happy building! Adam

John Blenkisop ( Hull 99 & 100 ) made his mould out of fibreglass & vinylester resin & it worked. I saw it after he had made one bulb and it was fine. Contact him to see how he went about it. Also you should add about 3% of Antimony to your lead. It makes it a lot harder.

Thanks Gary I've made my mould from concrete so will try that route. I'm running out of time so if that doesn't work I'll have to outsource.

Mine was concrete, cracked on the third pour. Wasn’t the lead pour it was the rolling it over not very gently. Could have put some wire mesh in the concrete with some tabs to make it easier to handle. Three pours because i under poured my 1st one and had to repour it. Great thing about lead if you mess it up you can just melt it and try again.

Hey Adam, I made mine from Plaster of Paris. It worked well and didnt crack. I had a failed pour so I had a total of 3 pours. Tip it over gently and you should have no problem. Also, I had a infrared temp gun that was faulty and I overheated my first pour. Be sure to check if you are using one.
Best of luck !

That would work well as long as the molten lead doesn't melt it.
