Wondering if any of the current builders have paid attention to the Trekka blog post from September 2021.... the post is mostly about making a budget self steering, but, skipping to the bottom, Janusz recommends moving the rudder forward in the gudgeons, to better balance the rudder. It would require giving the forward edge above waterline of the rudder a shaped profile, rather than the square profile in the plans. I haven't seen any of the blogs show that they have adopted that, so just curious if anyone will try it out?

Hey Daniel, I had to put some shape in my rudder in way of the lower hinge. I didnt put any radius shape in that area. I might add something there but I dont think that I will gain much in terms of efficiency ..... there are many other things that could be addressed in that area to add to the smoother water flow.

Cheers Capt Dan! Yours was built long before that post came out! i think Janusz's post was more about moving the surface of the rudder forward relative to the pivot point, to optimize the balance (so that less effort for the self-steering). i guess Little Bea is up again for the winter. hope you had a good summer of sailing.
