Hi all,
Just wondering of any specific requirements for the stanchions / pushpit / Pulpit / rail wire etc?
Is there a standard drawings anywhere out there or recommendations?
Cheers

In one of the 5 post transat race videos (I don't recall which one) Don mentioned that in an upcoming builders update that there would be new stanchion height and life line requirements. These differ from the info on the plans. Not sure if you have watched those but they are now all available on the CG580 YouTube channel. They are a must watch for any builder.
Also, you should look into the regs, if any, for yachts departing from your home port/country, if you intend to do so at some stage. There may be specific regs outlined there for you to follow.
For us here in New Zealand, our regs for New Zealand registered boats leaving NZ have guidelines for stanchion and life line heights, intervals, position on the working deck relative to edge of the deck, max allowed angle deviation from 90deg, material of construction, how stanchions, pushpits and pulpits are fastened to the working deck, gaps between lifelines, and pulpit geometry if it finishes ahead of the forestay etc.
Cheers!

From memory , Don stated in the video that the stanchions need to be 450 high with two wires equally spaced. The height of the stanchions forward of the cockpit will be taken from the sheer line. As Greg suggested they should be outlined in the next Builders Update. There is some info on stanchion heights etc in the Australian Sailing Blue e-Book : sasc.com.au/wp-content/uploads/161220-Special-Regulations-Part-1-Keelboats-v2.pdf

Thanks guys,
Will wait for the builders update. Will probably just see if I can buy an approved Pushpit/Pulpit rather than trying to figure it out and get something wrong 😆

Originally it was 40 cm. It might be worth checking to see what the Aust / NZ rules are and compare them to what is being floated around regarding the 580 ..... Cheers, Dan

the concept is to have 45cm for pushpit and pulpit and absolutely now two wires all the way through...as you can get posted like a letter on the deck forward...and it is simple to do...trying to get Builders update done in the next couple days but very busy right now ....we try stanchions at 45 cm from the sheer line hull to cabin side position thanks ...needed ror some countries to register boats too..

Thanks all. Looking at the plans am I correct in saying the tubing should be 25mm x 1.5mm thick? Hey Dan, Yes you are correct. The only one that is different is the Bowsprit. Here is a drawing from Janusz. Hopefully you can see it ...... it attached very small. I believe that Don will be looking for the Bowsprit to be robust and not fabricated out of the 25mm tube.
