I'm unsure about the the requirements and instructions for building frame D' (or D1). Building from a kit but from what I can understand I need to add oak posts and mast support. As these parts aren't included in the kit I need to do some upfront planning and source the right kind of timber. Not sure if I somehow missed it in the plans but I can't find any specs around it e.g. - Do the posts and mast supports in fact need to be hardwood (oak or equivalent)?
- What should the width of these parts be?
If this has already been discussed somewhere, can you please just direct me there. Thank you.

Hi Link, I know the dimensions are on the paper Plans from Janusz for sure but I'm not sure how that transfers back to the Kit and how that is assembled. I know there was some differences in the location and the construction depending on how you are building - By Hand or from Kit. On the drawings it shows the vertical pieces as being 60mm x 50mm Here is a link to the builders blog on Trekka II that is specific on this frame. globe580.blogspot.com/2020/06/wreg-d-frame-d.htmlI hope that helps a bit. Hi Link,
In the plans it refers to the hardwood being Oak but understand this is just a recommendation and other Hardwoods have been used amongst builders.
Cheers

If it helps anyone else, I rang my kit supplier and he's given me some guidance: - the posts need to be 55x60. 55 is on the paper plans and 60 is the same as the width of hardwood floor supports - the length of the vertical posts is then 1112mm. I think he worked that out from the CNC plans. Gives you guidance for how much timber to buy. Seems about right. - and the top part that supports the mast is 831mm wide - he suggested I buy tasmanian oak/stringybark/victorian mountain ash dressed timber in whatever thickness they have, then laminate the sections together to get the right dimensions

However, if you are building by hand, from the Plans, then it is shown on ARK 2 that the posts are 50 x 60 and the Pine or Larch frame members for D1 ( and all other Frames ) are 55 x 60 as shown on ARK 4. I cant speak to how the Kits are supplied, laid out or constructed so I might be off base on my comment above. Cheers, Captdan

Yes, looks like there's slight differences between the build plans and the kit. From the kit, the outer pine timber frame for D1 is 22mm, same as other frames. Only the floor, posts and the "mast support" parts are 60mm. Hmm, interesting.
I'll try to find blog photos of how D1 looks like once built from kit.
